Hospital Expansion Project

Harvesters’ His House of Hope Hospital Serves Women & Children in Yei, South Sudan

As we continue daily operations to address our ever-growing workload, we’ve also embarked on a capital campaign for a multi-phase expansion to our facilities to address the need for additional bed space and staff accommodations. There are many days we have a significantly higher number of patients than we do beds which presents challenges for effective management of quality patient care. In addition, to increased bed space, our expansion includes additional housing for up to 30 local national as well as missionary staff.

Fundraising for Phase I was a success! Phase I’s Waiting Mother’s Shelter and 1 National Staff House are completed and in use and 1 Missionary housing is nearly complete.

We’re now raising funds for Phase II which addresses critical patient and housing challenges. A Special Care Mother-Baby Unit is a key part of this plan. This new unit with two wings will provide an additional 40 beds for pregnant women and children. Additional housing for national and missionary staff is also essential to meet the demands of our patient care.

The Special Care Mother-Baby Unit, intended for pregnant women and children in critical condition, will provide an additional 40 beds for patients and is comprised of two wings:

The Neonatal/Maternity wing: consists of 2 wards with a total of 24 beds and 3 private rooms with a total of 6 beds, allowing us to care for up to 30 additional patients at a time. At 1,200 sq ft, this wing will be used to care for pregnant mothers after C-sections and those who are high risk and suffering with an illness. Babies who are born premature and with complications will also be cared for in this wing. The addition of this wing will free up our current maternity wing to expand our labor, delivery and routine postpartum care.
Pediatric wing: includes an additional 10 beds in 760 sq ft. This wing will focus on care for children suffering from malnutrition and other non-infected/reverse isolation cases which need to be separated from the other patients.

Once the Special Care Mother-Baby Unit is complete, we will have a total of 80 beds in our hospital to better accommodate and manage our average patient load.
